Born:
Spas Vatsov was born in Pirdop.
Education:
He obtained his magister degree in the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics in the University of Zagreb (1878).
Professional experience:
He was a school inspector from 1879 to 1884.
Spas Vatsov was founder and a first director of the Weather service in Bulgaria (1891 – 1928).
During that time, Meteorological Administration was transferred from Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Agriculture and State Property (1908).
Weather service became Central Meteorological and Seismic Institute at the Ministry of National Economy (1934).
It is National Institute of Meteorology and Hidrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences now.
Awards:
Spas Vatsov was corresponding member (1881) and member of Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1884).
Public Activities:
He was Secretary of Natural and Medical Branch of Bulgarian Learned Society (1884 – 1898; 1909) and Secretary of the Natural and Mathematical Branch of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1911 – 1920).
