Biography
ROSTISLAW ATANASOW KAISCHEW
(16.02.1908 – 18.11.2002)


Born:

He was born in Russia (St. Petersburg).

Education:

    He studied chemistry in Sofia University and specialized in Wroclaw (1930 - 1932), Berlin, Kharkiv (1935), Munich (1937 - 1938) [1]

He worked on his PhD thesis in the High Technical School in Wroclaw (1932) [1]

Research:

    Rostislaw Kaischew is one of the founders of the modern physical chemistry in Bulgaria and a creator of the worldwide recognized Bulgarian crystal growth school.

    His investigations with Prof. I. N. Stranski are in the field of modern theory of crystal growth

Teaching activities:

    As a head of the Department of Physical Chemistry Rostislaw Kaischew was a teacher manyучител на няколко поколения български физикохимици.

Professional Experience:

    He was assistant (1932 – 1944), Professor (1947), Corresponding Member (1947) and Member (1961), Deputy President of BAS (1962 – 1968), and head of the Chemical Section (1961 – 1962) of BAS [1]

    He was one of the founders of the Chair of Physical Chemistry at the University of Sofia

    He built the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
