MARIO VALENTINOV STOITSOV
1953 – †04.08.2011
|
Born: in Blagoevgrad.
Education:
He studed physics in the Sofia University (1973 - 1978).
Ph.D. (1983).
D. Sc. (1993).
Research:
Prof. D.Sc. Mario Stoitsov was theorist in the field of physics of nuclear structure and applied mathematics.
He developed (jointly with Prof. Ivan Petkov) method, which is widely used in theory of nucleus and nuclear reactions. The method is particularly useful in describing neutron "halo".
Professional experience:
Prof. D.Sc. Mario Stoitsov worked as Research Fellow (1978 – 1982), Associate Professor (1983 – 1992) and Professor (1997) in the Laboratory of Theoretical Nuclear Physics at the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy - BAS.
He worked at the Technical University of Munich, in the group for theory of the nucleus at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK). He had successful cooperation with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Since 2006 Prof. Mario Stoitsov participate successfully in the international project UNEDF with about 50 physicists and computer scientists in the field of applied mathematics (http://www.massexplorer.org )
Awards:
He was a member of the American Physical Society (since 1996).
