LJUBOMIR KRASTANOV
(15.11.1908 – 08.05.1977)

Born:
In Pleven.
Education:
Sofia University Faculty of Physics and Mathematics graduated him (1931).
Prof. Ivan N. Stranski was Director of his Ph.D. study "Ionic Cristals Precipitation one on the top of the others" (1938).
He had Post Doctoral specialization in the University of Leibzig (1940 – 1941).
Research:
Theoretical Meteorology and Geophisics were the areas of his research. He investigated physics of clouds and rainfall, condensation and crystallization processes in the atmosphere, and turbulence in the grounded air layer.
Professional experience:
Ljubomir Krastanov was elected Asociate Professor (1947), Full Professor (1951), Coressponding Member of BAS (1947), Member (1961) and President of the BAS (1962 – 1968).
He worked in the Central Meteorologic Institute (1932 – 1950) and was it Director (1950 – 1959). He managed the BAS Physical Institute Section (1947 – 1961) and Geophysical Institute (1960 – 1977).
Teaching activities:
He was Technical University Private Professor on meteorology (1946 – 1947), and Sofia University Professor on meteorology and geophisics (1958 – 1974).
Civic activities:
He was editor of the Bulgarian Encyclopaedia (1963 – 1969), and (1974).
Awards:
For explaination of the mechanism of condensation processes in atmosphere he was awarded.
