Biography
KYRILLE ATANASOFF POPOFF
(03.05.1880 – 01.05.1966)

Born in Shumen.

Education:

K. Popoff studied mathematics and physics at the High School in Sofia (1898 – 1902).

He specialized astronomy in Munich, Heidelberg, Nice (1906 – 1909) and Paris (1909 – 1910). In his PhD thesis he investigated orbit of Hekube at the University of Paris (1912).

Research:

Dr Kyrille Popoff used mathematical methods to solve physical problems in the aria of enternal and external balistics, magnetism of the earth, and thermodynamics of non-reversible proceses.

Professional experience:

In the chair of astronomy K. Popoff was Assistant Professor (1904 – 1914).

Dr K. Popoff headed the chair of Differential and Integral Calculus (1914 – 1952). He was Associate Professor (1914), Extraordinary Professor (1920), Professor (1922).

He was one of the editors of “Revue mathematique de l'Union interbalkanique”, printed in Athens since 1936.

Teaching activities:

In the Sofia University K. Popoff lectured "Differential and Integral Calculus", "Differential Geometry", "Calculus of Probability", "Theoretical Astronomy" (1926-1927; 1927-1928), "Mathematical Theory of Insurance" (1938 – 1939; 1948 – 1949; 1949 – 1950).

Awards:

Academy of Sciences in France awarded him with premium “Montion” for his results in balistics (1926) and prise "Anry de Parvil" (1957).
