The first part of our contribution is dedicated to the life and achievements of Rudjer Boskovic (1711 – 1787), a famous scientist born in Dubrovnik whose 300-th anniversary is celebrated in many corners of the world. In the second part we report on the scientific output of physicists working in Balkan countries using as a main source the SCOPUS database providing information spanning last four decades.

Key words: Rudjer Boskovic, national science production
