Unified Theory of Rogerio Boscovich
300 anniversary of the Croatian scholar

Nicola Balabanov
Plovdiv University

Rogerio Boscovich is a Croatian scientist, uttered amazing ideas about the structure of mater and the properties of the world from atoms to space. He imagined atoms as physical items. They are the source of force that is acting between them. According to Boscovich, “only one law of forces” acts in nature. The force modifies its character according to the distance between the particles and bodies. Hypotheses raised in his works are confirmed by the modern physics now. That gives as grounds to call him “a pioneer and predecesor of the atomism”.

Rogerio Boscovich is a versatile scientist. He works in mathematics, astronomy, optics and meteorology. His scientific contributions have been recognized alive. He was a member of many European academies. He also performed diplomatic missions and interested in both poetry and music, and in archeology, medicine, etc.

He was a versatile scientist with ideas ahead of his time and created a hypothetical picture of the physical world, worthy of admiration.
