The modern classification of the educational subjects joins Mathematics and Statistics (International Standard Classification of Education of UNESCO) like Mathematics and Physics were considered together at the beginning of twentieth century. At that time the probability theory was infiltrated in Mathematics and Physics, as well. Most of the alumni of the Department of Physics and Mathematics were appointed as teachers in Mathematics and Physics, some of them were finding professional realization as actuaries in banks and insurance companies, at geodesy and meteorology, where tasks are connected with stochastics.
The first course on Probability at Sofia University is in Obreshkoff’s book “High Algebra, volume II”. The issue is dated at 1935 as no.163 of the University Library. At that time most of the mathematical and physical faculty was interested in stochastic problems.
After the World War II a political pressure on Statistics as methodology existed. Only in 1965 former Soviet Academy started surmounting the consequences of this cruel intervention. In fact, the teaching Probability at the Sofia University had not been stopped. Now the Stochastics is partially included into curricula of the High schools mathematics. Its teaching and learning as instrument of data analysis meets significant difficulties. Our opinion is that the main reason is in insufficient lessons on the subject at the elementary and secondary schools.
